Take the Bait and Enjoy the “Fishing Challenge” at Shabbona Lake State Park.

The challenge is yours and so are the fish at Shabbona Lake. Just drop a line and wait for the inevitable bite.

Shabbona Lake State Recreation Area features a 318.8 acre man-made fishing lake. You can fish from shore, from the dock (a handicapped accessible area is also available), or rent a boat. If you have your own fishing boat, lake access is available from a double-lane launching ramp. Boat motors are limited to a 10 horsepower maximum. And, to make the fishing experience even more serene, there is even an 18-acre upper fishing area which is a no-wake zone where only the use of electric trolling motors or rowing is permitted.

You want to fish but don’t own a boat? Family-owned Boondocks Bait and Boat Rental is located right in Shabbona Park and features bait, tackle and boat rental. The staff of Boondock Supply are courteous, friendly and willing to assist you in your Dekalb Wild adventure. They sell bait, tackle, snacks, beer, and soft drinks- anything necessary for your fishing expedition. You can purchase you Illinois Fishing License and rent fishing boats. You can depend on Boondocks staff for their knowledge of the best fishing spots.

So, c’mon in for true ‘fish’ stories and see pictures of award winning catches. Whether fishing from a boat or shore, both are popular and productive at Shabbona Lake, which is stocked with large and smallmouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, rock bass, black and white crappie, black and brown-bullhead, channel catfish, walleye, muskie and perch. Grab a pole and take the Wild DeKalb Challenge.
